Sheffield Occupational Health & Safety Association
All the Gold Award Winning Groups provide excellent examples of what Safety Groups do and achieve.
They were all exceptional entries but for an outstanding example of the commitment and contribution that Safety Groups make to Health and Safety, the Overall Alan Butler Winner 2011 has been awarded to the Sheffield Occupational Health and Safety Association.
Maurice Adamson Award Winner 2011
Gordon Hicks, MBE
This Award was introduced last year to commemorate the work of Maurice Adamson who worked tirelessly for over 20 years in improving the standards of health and safety and was the driving force behind the committee of the Teesside Safety Group.
The award is to recognise the 'Outstanding contribution from an individual to the Safety Groups Movement'.
This year the calibre of nominees received was exceptional, highlighting again the extraordinary contributions that individuals make to ensure the success of the Groups.
The Winner of the Maurice Adamson Award 2011 is Gordon Hicks.
Gordon has supported the London Safety Group since he joined in 1968, including 23 years as Secretary of the Group. Among the many duties he embraced, he also lead and organised campaigns to provide London SMEs’ with practical H&S advice and support. His enthusiasm has encouraged ‘new blood’ onto the committee where he is still a source of information and a mentor.
