Enter the Awards 2011!

The Safety Groups UK awards comprise of the Alan Butler Awards and the Maurice Adamson Award, which was launched last year. The awards have been designed to recognise and celebrate success of Safety Groups and to provide positive examples for others to learn from.

Alan Butler Awards sponsored by BT

This year the Alan Butler awards have been restructured to make the entry process simpler. The four previous categories have been amalgamated into one entry form and Groups are being asked to answer five key performance questions.

1. How does your group communicate with your members, other health and safety organisations and the wider community?

2. What topics and speakers were included in your Group’s annual programme and / or seminar and why?

3. How does your group support the HSE and its strategy?

4. How does your group encourage retention and recruitment of members?

5. What single achievement is your group most proud of in the last 12 months and why?

Entries will be awarded an Alan Butler ‘Gold’, ‘Silver’ or ‘Bronze’ award, potentially enabling all Groups to receive recognition for their achievements. Typically to achieve an Alan Butler ‘Gold’ Award, Groups would have to demonstrate excellence in all areas.

An independent panel of judges will choose an overall Alan Butler Award Winner.

‘Silver’ and ‘Bronze’ award winners will be invited to receive their award from SGUK President Lord Brougham & Vaux at the annual meeting of SGUK at the House of Lords in January. ‘Gold’ Award winners will receive a cash prize and will be presented with their award at the SGUK luncheon following the meeting.

Maurice Adamson award

Nominations have again been invited for the Maurice Adamson award for: “Outstanding contributions by individuals to their local Safety Group”. The inaugural winner in 2010 was Ann Jones from the Swansea & West Wales Safety Group.

All Groups affiliated to SGUK are being challenged to enter the Alan Butler Awards. Further details on how to enter are available at: www.safetygroupsuk.org.uk/awards

All Groups taking part in the scheme will receive the results of their entry in early December 2011.

The Maurice Adamson Award winner and the overall Alan Butler Award winner will be announced at the SGUK Awards luncheon at the House of Lords on 23rd January 2012 hosted by SGUK President Lord Brougham & Vaux.
